Waterfront Hideaway

This custom home on Gambier Island was designed by New York Architect Joel Turkel and became a modified version of one of Turkel’s Dwell Collection Homes for Lindal Cedar Homes.

The unique landscape of the site provided an amazing backdrop for this contemporary home. With no ferry access to the site all materials were barged in, this required a great deal of planning and organization by the team involved. Led by My House Design/Build Team this project was carefully thought through to the last detail.

The house was sighted to maximize the water view, yet positioned in a way to nestle the house in the treed landscape and hide the home from the water.

The interior of the home is unexpected given its surroundings; the interior has clean contemporary lines. Natural materials were used to enhance the overall feel of the home.

This project was featured on the cover of West Coast Homes + Design for the March 2012 issue and Best Home Magazine for the Winter 2012 issue.

Meticulously designed and constructed, this home earned Greater Vancouver Home Builders (GVHBA) Ovation Awards for ‘Best Custom Home $1-2 million’, and ‘Best Outdoor Living Space’ in 2012. It was also awarded 2 Canadian Home Builders Association of BC (CHBABC) Georgie Awards for ‘Best Custom Home 1.5-3million’ and ‘Best Interior Design – Custom Residence’

The Interior Designers Institute of BC (IDIBC) awarded this spectacular home with 2 prestigious Shine Awards in 2012 – one Residential Award of Excellence, and one Sustainability Award of Merit.
