This South Surrey home was reconfigured to allow for an entertaining space and better connection to the outdoors. The kitchen was enlarged and relocated to the back of the house with a window added facing the large yard. This new location for the kitchen allows it to be open to the dining and living space. A raised eating bar on the large island provide seating in the kitchen and skylights were added to provide more natural light to a previously dreary space.
Contrasting materials were used for interest. The light perimeter cabinets allow the space to feel open while the darker materials ground the kitchen. A secondary prep sink on the island provides a second working triangle in the kitchen and gives room for two cooks to work efficiently. The glossy marble inlaid backsplash provides texture and reflection to the kitchen. Pendants over the island with a grass motif, and a walk around ledge stone fireplace give the space a natural feel
This renovation was done by the My House Design/Build Team and was a finalist for the 2012 Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association (GVHBA) Ovation Awards for ‘Best Kitchen Renovation over $100,000’.
