Natalie has always felt like one of the lucky few who knew what she wanted to do at a very young age. Art and design in various forms have always been a big part of her life. Her family encouraged her in this direction, and some of her fondest memories were days checking out condo show suites with her dad. Like most budding designers, those field trips turned into sources of inspiration for her own room or any other parts of the house where her parents let her unleash her creative spirit.
Straight out of high school Natalie attended BCIT and studied Interior Design. She gained experience as an architectural rep for a large ceramic tile company before joining a large developer of multi-family homes. The fast-paced schedules and the integration of business/marketing in design brought great appeal.
In 2008, Natalie started a design and project management firm that gradually transitioned from residential to commercial design and focused primarily on retail interiors. As creative director and partner, she supported a team of young, experienced and creative designers who worked for international clients with projects in cities across Canada. The firm had a reputation of providing innovative design, meeting deadlines and coming within budget.
She enjoys working in an environment where integrity and innovation are met with the challenge of creating the best, most optimally functional, design. With the premise that you need to have fun as part of the quotient for getting the best results, she strives to make that happen for herself, her peers, her contractors and particularly, her clients. She feels strongly that a successful project begins and ends with open and honest communication with all parties. She aspires for her clients to get that little thrill every time they walk into a finished room.
Changes in Natalie’s life brought about a sell of her shares in her company to her business partner. After a bit of soul searching she realized how much she missed the aspects of residential design, joining the SGDI team allowed her to fulfill that need.
At SGDI, Natalie oversees the interior designers; guiding and supporting the team, as well as leading projects and working with clients to create their dream spaces.
She has travelled extensively in Europe, North America, Mexico and Japan for business and pleasure. Natalie is an avid skier and can be found most winter weekends up in Whistler or on the Grouse Grind where she is a self-professed addict. She loves painting and her motto these days “the bigger the canvas the better!”
“The details are not the details, they make the design” – Charles Eames
